Description
SUMMARY 
Assists carpentry crews with constructing, erecting, and repairing structures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must be able to work while tied off to fall protection;
  • Skilled in use of necessary hand and power tools;
  • Must be able to work with level;
  • Supplies crew with specified type of lumber or other tools or materials;
  • Assists with measuring boards, timbers, or plywood, and marking cutting lines on materials;
  • Assists carpenters with shaping materials to prescribed measurements;
  • Nails cleats (braces) across boards to construct concrete-supporting forms;
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue;
  • Climb wingwalls, retaining walls;
  • Assists with assembling/disassembling wood deck forms;
  • Assists with constructing forms and chutes for pouring concrete;
  • Assists in pouring of concrete;
  • Assists with erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.

  • Ability to follow directions;
  • Handle basic hand tools, such as shovel, pick, broom, hammer, saw, paint brushes, etc.
  • Light or heavy handling;
  • Job site housekeeping;
  • Flagging;
  • Erect construction signs, cones, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum one year related experience and/or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Understand English

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, read rule, calculate measurements. Ability to apply concepts of geometry. 

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must pass Flagger Certification test to act as flagger.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud.
