Job Title: Laborer
Reports To: Foreman

SUMMARY

Works on various construction projects by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with various experience and ability to work with or without close supervision by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Performs maintenance of traffic and flagging.

2. Performs job site housekeeping duties.

3. Assists with measuring distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretches tight line.

4. Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.

5. Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to

conform to grade specifications.

6. Assists with leveling earth to fine grade specifications.

7. Assists with mixing concrete.

8. Assists with smoothing and finishing freshly poured cement, mortar, or concrete.

9. Assists with positioning, joining, aligning, and sealing pipe sections.

10. Assists with erecting scaffolding, shoring, and braces.

11. Mops, brushes, or spreads paint or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.

12. Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.

13. Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.

14. Assists with demolishing structures, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe

hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating materials.

15. Works in a safe and responsible manner at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. Ability to follow directions;

2. Handle basic hand tools, such as shovel, pick, broom, hammer, saw, paint brushes, etc.

3. Light or heavy handling;

4. Job site housekeeping;

5. Flagging;

6. Erect construction signs, cones, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum six months related experience and/or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one– or two–step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must pass Flagger Certification test to act as flagger.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
