Description

Corman Kokosing Construction, leading heavy highway/bridge, marine and industrial contractor in the Mid-Atlantic region, has openings for Concrete Finishers in the Tidewater area of VA.

Summary

Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete bridge decks, parapets, sidewalks, or curbs and gutters to specified textures by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Signals concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete.
  • Moves discharge chute of truck to direct concrete into forms.
  • Spreads concrete into inaccessible sections of forms with rake or shovel.
  • Levels concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, with hand held screed and floats to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Smooths and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
  • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges.
  • Sprinkles colored stone chips, powdered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce prescribed finish.
  • Produces rough concrete surface with broom.
  • Mixes cement with hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  • Use of hand tools such as; hoe, trowel, tamper, and scraper.
  • Breaks up and repairs old concrete surfaces.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Two to four years related experience and/or training.

 

Language Skills

Speak English or have translator on site; Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using weight measurement, volume, and distance.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
